The US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller on Wednesday reaffirmed that Washington is not providing the Islamic Emirate with financial support in any way.
“We do not support the Taliban [IEA]. As I have clearly said in previous briefings, we do not give any financial aid to the Taliban. This is completely false,” said Miller during a press briefing.
Miller added that the US closely monitors the actions of the current government of Afghanistan.
“We continue to closely monitor the Taliban’s (IEA) treatment of the Afghan people, especially their treatment of Afghan women and girls. We expect the Taliban to abide by their commitments to the Afghan people and the international community in this regard. As we have told the Taliban representatives publicly and privately, their relationship with the international community depends entirely on their actions,” he added.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the IEA, also said that no country has provided financial support to the acting government, but humanitarian aid continues to be provided for the people of Afghanistan.
The Islamic Emirate says that the issue of women’s education and work is an internal issue of Afghanistan and that countries have no right to interfere in this matter.
