Some members of Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Afghan parliament, say the Mother of All Bombs has infected residents of Achin district of Nanagahar with various illnesses, stressing that the US should compensate the victims.
US Air Forces dropped the Mother of All Bombs, the most powerful conventional bomb in the American arsenal, on ISIS-K caves in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province in October 2017.
After three years, representatives of the province in Wolesi Jirga say that the bomb has caused health problems to inhabitants of the area.
Ebrarullah Murad, representing Nangarhar in the house, told the Saturday’s plenary session that the bomb not only caused various sicknesses among the residents, but also resulted in child birth disabilities.
“Agricultural land does not grow crops, children suffer from skin diseases, every child born in the area has health issues and water has been contaminated,” he claimed.
He called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to talk to the US embassy in Kabul to reimburse the residents.
Abdulrawof Shpoon, another representative of the province in the house, who claimed to visit the district last week, said:” The water cannel in the district has been contaminated with chemicals, if a human or animal drinks water from it, they will die.”
He also called on the US to pay compensation to the victims of the bomb.
Amir Khan Yar, deputy speaker of Wolesi Jirga, who chaired the session, tasked the International Relations Commission of the house to talk to US embassy in Kabul on compensation for the victims. He also urged the government to resolve the problems of the residents of the area where the bomb was used.
This comes as Zahir Adil, spokesperson to the Public Health Department of Nangarhar, says no disease has been recorded with their department that can be attributed to the bomb.
