Update: Johns Hopkins tally fixes global COVID-19 cases to below 2 mln

By 0300 GMT Tuesday, the number of global total cases was reported as 1,920,618.

NEW YORK, April 13 (Xinhua) — After initially reporting that global COVID-19 cases topped 2 million on Monday night, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University has lowered the figure.

At 8 p.m. local time on Monday (0000 GMT on Tuesday), the CSSE said the global COVID-19 cases surpassed 2 million, while at around 11:00 p.m. (0300 GMT on Tuesday) it reported the total number stood at 1,920,618.

The total deaths worldwide were 119,687, according to the CSSE.

The United States is the country with the most cases, 582,607, and the highest death toll of 23,628. Spain and Italy followed with 170,099 and 159,516 cases, respectively, the tally shows.

Other hardest-hit countries include France with 137,877 cases and Germany with 130,072 cases, the tally shows. ■
