UN welcomes reopening schools in Afghanistan

United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres in a Twitter post welcomed the announcement of schools’ reopening on March 22nd and asked for the implementation of the plan by the Taliban.

“I welcome the plan announced by the Taliban to reopen schools for girls & boys on 22 March, which must now be approved and implemented. All doors must be open for girls & boys to have an education and reach their full potential.” Reads the Tweet.

The Ministry of Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has announced that all schools in 24 non-tropical provinces will reopen both for boys and girls on Hamal 3rd which is March 22nd.

The Ministry has insisted that boys and girls will be separated and only women will be allowed to teach girls while observing Islamic hijab.

Spokesperson of the ministry Abdul Rahman further added that admitting new school students across Afghanistan is going on and there is no limitation in this regard.
