Public representatives in the lower house of Afghan problem criticized the Independent Election Commission (IEC) for its failure in the announcement of preliminary results of presidential election even two months after the election day.
Talking at the plenary session of Wolisi Jirga on Saturday, parliamentarians said the IEC has violated the Election Law on several occasions as it has been continually delaying the declaration of the September 28 presidential elections results, accusing the election body of ineptitude.
They called a two months delay in the results of presidential election a huge shame, stressing that no country has ever experienced such a long delay in the announcement of election results. Parliamentarians called on IEC to maintain its independence and respect the will of Afghan nation.
They said IEC members should avoid supporting any presidential ticket and announce the preliminary results with a complete impartiality as soon as possible.
This comes as IEC Chief Hawa Alam Nooristani called on presidential candidates and their teams to stop creating obstacles for vote recount in the last seven provinces of the country. She warned if the problem continued, the commission would resort to alternative ways, but did not illustrate the alternatives.
Afghanistan held its fourth presidential election since Taliban ouster in 2001 on September 28, but the results have not be announced so far due some technical glitches and fraud accusations. Some tickets not only boycotted the vote recount process but also prevented IEC staff in 7 provinces from the ballot re-tally.
