Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has called for the shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), one of the largest aid organizations supporting impoverished countries, including Afghanistan.

On Friday, Trump accused the agency of “massive corruption and fraud” in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, and urged: “Shut it down!”

According to The New York Times, Trump had previously criticized USAID, claiming it was run by “radical lunatics.” This call for its closure comes as most USAID employees were on the verge of being placed on indefinite unpaid leave, with only the agency’s contractors expected to be exempt from this situation.

USAID has been one of the largest international aid organizations, providing over $109 billion in assistance to Afghanistan over the past two decades.
