The state of ground transportation in Afghanistan is considered one of the key sectors for the country’s economic growth and development. Although some limited progress has been made over the past few decades, the current situation demands a serious review and the need for standardization. Ground transportation in Afghanistan plays a vital role in the social and economic life of the nation, but the current transport infrastructure does not adequately meet international standards.

The existing roads, bridges, and transportation systems have aged significantly and are not suitable for the new demands. Due to these transport challenges, Afghanistan is unable to fully capitalize on the economic opportunities within the region. In particular, the expansion of commercial and regional transport systems will not only boost domestic trade but will also position Afghanistan as a crucial transit and trade hub between Central Asia and South Asia.

The private sector can play a key role in this area. Investment by the private sector in transport projects can accelerate development and pave the way for the creation of standardized systems. The government should create such facilities and incentives for investors to encourage investment in transport infrastructure. For example, building major roads and purchasing new transportation vehicles can provide profitable opportunities for the private sector.

In addition to this, international transport standards must be considered. Transportation vehicles in Afghanistan should be built in accordance with international standards, and new technologies and quality methods should be used in road construction. Adhering to international standards will not only ensure the longevity of roads but will also enhance the safety of passengers and transport vehicles.

Learning from international experiences in the development of transport systems is also an essential requirement. Developed countries can provide financial and technical assistance for the improvement of this sector. The use of new transport technologies and the development of roads in light of international standards will breathe new life into Afghanistan’s transportation system.

Moreover, there is a need for better management and oversight of ground transportation. The government should actively monitor and regulate transportation systems to ensure the quality of existing roads and transport vehicles is maintained. Additionally, transportation policies and regulations should be established based on international standards to ensure that all transportation activities are organized and safe.

In conclusion, the Afghan caretaker government must take serious steps toward modernizing and standardizing transportation infrastructure through partnerships with the private sector and international cooperation. This will be a vital step toward Afghanistan’s economic growth, regional cooperation, and improving the quality of life for its people.
