The acting Interior Minister, said that efforts are underway to find a proper solution for the reopening of schools and universities for the girls

Haqqani made the remarks at a gathering of religious scholars, private sector representatives and tribal elders in Herat, where he arrived on Monday alongside a senior delegation of the Islamic Emirate, led by Abdul Hakim Haqqani, head of the Supreme Court.

Haqqani said that the issue of girls’ schools and universities takes some time.

“Efforts are underway for a logical solution on these issues. The problem we see is that when an issue becomes controversial, it needs some time in order to not cause dispute,” he said.

Haqqani said that despite the Afghan private sector having faced various challenges over the past two years, it has played an important role in the improvement of the situation.

Some private sector representatives who participated in the gathering also mentioned the need to reopen girls’ schools.

“The conditions that the government is deciding, the schools and universities will be reopened based on those conditions, so the investment is not directed outside of the country,” said Torialai Ghawsi, deputy head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mines of Herat.

“The mental pressure should not be imposed on us, and our youth should not be slapped in the face in the corners of the cities, the women or girls should not come under pressure of the governmental authorities,” said Abdullah Dashti, deputy head of Chamber of Commerce and Investment of Herat.

The participants also called for security and the Islamic Emirate’s engagement with the international community, saying that Afghanistan should be dragged out of political isolation.

“We have heard your problems. Those issues belong to me, I will certainly pay attention to them,” Haqqani said.
