On Sunday, sources say that infrastructure in Baghlan province used by multiple telecommunication companies was targeted by insurgents. The attacks resulted in damage amounting to more than several million dollars and affected communications in Baghlan, Kunduz and Balkh provinces.

Insurgents shutdown the network by starting fires at the two Baghlan centers within the last 24 hours, sources say.

The estimated combined cost is over several million US dollars.

No group has claimed responsibility, but the Taliban in a statement in August threatened to target employees and installations of telecommunication companies for aiding government and foreign forces with “intelligence activities.” Installations, offices and vehicles of the company will be treated as military targets, the Taliban said.
