The Taliban have closed 30 religious schools, including the central Darul-Ulom, from the past three days in central Logar province, an official said on Monday.
Education Director Wazir Gul Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban closed seminaries, central Darul Ulom and warned of severe punishment in case of violation of orders.
“When three days back the Taliban order the closure of Madrasas the order was implemented and nobody dared to go to Madrassas,” he said.
Momand said education officials in coordination with local authorities have launched efforts to reopen the closed Madrassas.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed to Pajhwok the closure of religious schools in Logar province.
“Matter related to the government were being discussed in these institutions instead of religious lessons,” claimed Mujahid.
Mujahid asked the students to continue their religious education in private madrassas.
