The National Security Council (NSC) on Monday said the Taliban prisoners’ release process would not commence tomorrow (March 31) as earlier scheduled.
Earlier, the government and the Taliban had agreed to start swapping prisoners on March 31.

However, NSC spokesman Javid Faisal told that the prisoner swap process had been postponed indefinitely.

He said a decision was made between the Afghan government and the Taliban on Sunday over the Taliban delegation’s visit to Kabul.

He said further technical talks over the Taliban prisoner release process would take place in Kabul.

He added a Taliban delegation in cooperation with ICRC will soon arrive in the country with the task to discuss the release of prisoners. “These talks are of international nature.”

He said the Afghan government would take measures to protect the Taliban’s delegation.

He said the two sides agreed that further technical consultations regarding the Taliban prisoner release should be held in Afghanistan after the Taliban delegation’s visit Kabul.
