At least 11 Taliban were killed in attack on a joint army-police security checkpoint in Ghazni province on Tuesday night, said Mohammad Khalid Wardak, the provincial police chief.
The attack took place around 7:30pm local time after a group of Taliban attacked the checkpoint in Shahbaz area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, said Wardak.
“The Taliban escaped the area after they suffered casualties and air support was provided,” according to Wardak.
Mirwais Akrami, the police commander of the highway, was also injured in the clashes with the Taliban, Wardak confirmed.
“A soldier was killed in the attack, and police commander Mirwais and another policeman were wounded in the clashes,” he added.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the clashes.
