Sweden Assures ‘Continued and Long-Term Support’ to Afghanistan

Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday hosted the newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to Afghanistan Torkel Stiernlöf at Sapedar Palace, discussing joint cooperation for betterment of the country.

During the meeting, Abdullah congratulated Ambassador Stiernlöf on his appointment as the new Swedish Ambassador to Afghanistan and wished him all the best in the mission, said the Palace in a statement.

Thanking Sweden for its continued support to Afghanistan, Abdullah “asserted Sweden is a long-term ally and friend of Afghanistan.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador Stiernlöf praised the warm welcome and assured of his country’s “continued and long-term support for Afghanistan and the peace process.”

“They also discussed the peace process, the talks in Doha, and the inaugural meeting of the Leadership Committee of the HCNR at the Presidential Palace,” said the statement.

This came days after the HCNR hold its leadership committee meeting on Afghan peace negotiations, which plays vital rule in facilitating the process.
