Ninety percent of Afghans prefer peace to holding presidential election.
That is according to Nai, Afghanistan’s top media watchdog, which recently conducted a survey in 34 provinces of the country to reflect the citizens’ views about peace process and presidential election.
In this survey, about 5,379 people in 34 provinces of the country were interviewed. This survey consequently stated that 90 percent of the respondents have prioritized peace as compared to holding presidential election.
A deputy spokesman for the presidency said in addition to serious efforts for peace talks, the government is also committed to hold presidential election on due time.
Meanwhile, the presidency said the demands of the citizens will be taken into consideration in both peace process and presidential election.
According the survey, the residents of secure provinces favor peace process more than those in insecure provinces.
Most of the county’s experts believe that war and insecurity could directly influence the Afghans’ life, thus, the residents of insecure areas are not very much interested in peace process.
