The Attorney General Office (AGO) said on Sunday it had found some documents regarding the alleged sexual abuse of schoolchildren in central Logar province.

About a month ago, the AGO launched an investigation into allegations of sodomy at six schools in the provincial capital.

At least 546 boy students were sexually assaulted by a pedophile ring involving teachers, principals and powerful local figures.

Several victims, whose videos were leaked on Facebook, had since been killed, media reports said. The issue sparked an outrage among officials and residents across the province.

Following the allegations leveled by civil society activist Musa Mohammadi, infuriated individuals took to the streets and demanded a thorough inquiry.

In a statement on Sunday, the AGO said its delegation probing the alleged sodomy cases had found several documents related to the case.

While trying to establish the rule of law and ensure justice, the AGO added, prosecutors continued to seriously investigate the issue.

The AGO urged Logar officials, residents and civil society members to share with investigators any documents or evidence they had about the pedophile ring.

“Citizens can ring up the relevant authorities on 180 to record evidence/documents with AGO investigators. The callers’ identity will be kept secret,” the statement added.

The AGO once again promised investigating the case in a just and transparent manner. The findings would be shared with the public in line with the law of the land, it concluded.
