Masked gunmen shot dead the administrative chief for Shamluazi district of southern Zabul province along with his son in the capital of Kandahar province on Saturday.
The gunmen in a car opened fire at the official in Aino Mina area of Kandahar City around 2pm, said the Kandahar governor’s spokesman, Aziz Ahmad Azizi.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that Momand Nasratyar, the administrative chief of Shamulazi district, was killed and his son was wounded in the attack.
Police rushed the son of the district chief to hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds, Azizi said.
The attackers managed to escape, but police had launched a manhunt to arrest them.
Eyewitnesses told Pajhwok that a man in white clothes and his son were traveling in a red colored Corolla model car when came under attack.
They said it was not known who the attackers were but they probably used silent guns.
