Mashrano Jirga says it will investigate allegations and complaints against Alipor, a militia commander in Maidan Wardak province.
Residents of the province claim that Alipor extorts passengers and runs a private prison in Behsud district of the province.
Hasibullah Kalimzay, a senator representing Wardak province in the senate, said in the plenary session of the house on Sunday that Alipor had imprisoned a number of local residents.
Without proving any details, Kalimzay accused Alipor of being supported by Iran, saying he continued to persecute ordinary citizens, harshly criticized the government for its inaction against the militiaman’s illegal activities.
“If the government does not take any measure against him, the local people will defend themselves as hundreds of Hazara Afghans travel on road crossing from Wardak province,” he warned.
He claimed that Alipor has so far taken hostage a number of local people and even killed some of them, stressing that residents of Wardak province can longer tolerate the tyranny of the illegal militia commander.
Senate speaker Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said Alipor’s actions have nothing to do with his ethnicity, calling on the tribal elders of the province to solve the problem through dialogue. He also tasked the Complaints and Internal Security commissions to investigate the complaints against Alipor and share their findings with the senate.
Alipor was arrested last year in Kabul but was released after violent protests by his supporters.
