The US Senate in a report said that there were from 15,000 to 16,000 Americans between August 17 and August 30 among whom only 6,000 were evacuated during the chaos Kabul evacuation.
The report views that the US officials confirmed only 100 Americans left in Afghanistan while the US Department of State said in October 2021 that there were 363 US citizens left behind but the real number is now believed to be 9,000.
As per the report, the US officials like US Secretary of State Antonio Blenkin and US Central Command leader General Kenneth McKenzie frequently said that they were in touch with a small number of Americans who wanted to leave Afghanistan.
Senator Risch, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said that despite countless warnings that the Taliban had the ability to take the country swiftly, the Biden Administration failed to properly plan a coordinated evacuation of US citizens, Afghans, and allied partners.
This comes as thousands of Afghans who worked along with US forces in Afghanistan have also remained stranded in Afghanistan and living in limbo as the US has announced no evacuation plan from Kabul.
