One individual has been killed and two others have been wounded in a clash between officials in the Hairatan Port in northern Balkh province.
The clash took place on Sunday evening, a credible source told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity. The fight erupted between guards of the border police commissar and the port security chief.
Commissar Habibullah Guzar is the son of Parwan lawmaker Amanullah Guzar and the port security head Syed Mohammad Noor is the nephew of former governor Atta Mohammad Noor.
The central bank had told journalist a day earlier that US dollars were smuggled through the port to the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries. The smuggling had weakened the Afghani, officials of the bank said.
According to the source, the clash erupted when the commissar’s private armored vehicle was passing in front of the port security head. The motive behind the clash is not yet known.
The governor’s office, police headquarters, the port administration and border police refused to comment on the fight.
