Security forces reclaim Takhar’s Khwaja Ghar district

Security forces have regained control of the Khwaja Ghar district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Saturday.
On Friday evening, the Taliban insurgents captured the district center after a coordinated attack.
Saleem Javed, spokesman for commando forces in the northern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the security personnel conducted an operation soon after the rebels seized the district.
He said the militants were beaten back and the security forces reclaimed the district. A clearing operation is still underway in parts of the district.
The provincial police spokesman also confirmed the development. Khalil Aseer said the security forces suffered no casualties during the operation.
A resident of the area, Najibullah, said: “The security forces, without any resistance, left the district center. But it was retaken after the operation that was conducted at 9pm after the arrival of reinforcements.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesman, said the district was still under their control and the fighters had moved to Kokchi town.
He claimed many security personnel had suffered casualties and several weapons had been seized by rebels during the attack on the district center.
