Revenue from coalmines in northern Samangan province has reached one billion and 95 million Afghanis, showing a 27 percent decrease over last year’s income, an official said on Sunday.
Burhanuddin Burhan, in charge of coal mines in Samangan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the income of the two coalmines namely Shabashak and Dehna Tor in Dara-i-Sauf Bala district was one billion and 95 million Afghanis.
He linked the decrease to insecurity on the Dara-i-Sauf-Mazar highway and the road to Aibak, the capital of the province.
According to reports, around 10,000 people are working in these coalmines.
The official said revenues of three other coalmines (Western Garmak, eastern Garmak and Rashk) had not been included to the mentioned revenue as the Minister of Mines and Petroleum had contracted them to a private firm.
