Russia has sent 1,200 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in the past 12 months.
The Russian news agency TASS reported that the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, during a meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, stated that part of this aid has been delivered to Afghanistan through the World Food Program (WFP).
The deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate said that the meeting also addressed strengthening economic, trade, and transit relations, as well as Russian humanitarian aid and investments in Afghanistan.
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said: “Both countries discussed investment in the transit sector, broad cooperation, and a joint trade forum. In this forum, special committees will be designated for various sectors.”
Some economic analysts believe that strengthening economic ties with Russia and attracting its aid and investments could be beneficial for Afghanistan’s economic growth and development.
Abdul Basir Turki, an economic analyst, said: “The Islamic Emirate must work harder to seize this opportunity and create a favorable environment for Russian investment to achieve mutual engagement.”
Qutbuddin Yaqubi, another economic analyst, said: “Russia can play a significant role in Afghanistan’s economy by developing infrastructure, investing in the energy sector, and connecting Afghanistan’s trade routes with the region.”
Previously, the Russian President’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, during a meeting with the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Moscow’s desire to expand economic and trade relations with Afghanistan.
