Unidentified armed men gunned down a religious scholar in the Khewa district of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, an official said.
Governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened at around 5:00 am in the Tag Kala locality.
The slain Maulvi Safiullah was imam at a mosque and served as a teacher in the Tawakul Baba High School, he said.
He was on his way to home from mosque when targeted with a silencer pistol, said Khogyani.
Police have launched investigation into the fresh murder incident of religious scholar.
Maulvi Saifullah was 17th religious scholar being killed in the past three months in Nangarhar.
