The Ministry of Public Health, by sending a team of six doctors to Farah province, has treated 400 patients suffering from eye diseases.

The doctors said they have treated these patients for free over a period of ten days.

“The Ministry of Public Health had given us a target of 353 patients to treat, but because there were more patients, we added 50 more, especially those whose eyes had cataracts. Their cataracts were operated on, and our target reached 400,” said Mohammad Hafiz Malik, a doctor.

Mohammad Farid Mufaker, the head of Farah Provincial Hospital, said: “They came for about ten days and had planned to operate on 350 patients who had cataracts or other eye diseases.”

Meanwhile, the residents of Farah welcomed the doctors, saying that due to economic challenges, they could not afford to treat their illnesses.

“I am very happy that we are being treated for free since the government prevents us from going to Pakistan and Iran,” said Abdul Qayum, a resident of Farah.

“It is very good that we are being treated for free because due to financial problems, I cannot go to Pakistan or Iran,” said Akhtar Mohammad, another resident of this province.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, the Afghan Red Crescent Society, with financial support from Qatar, also conducted free surgeries on over 270 eye patients in Helmand province.
