Pres. Ghani departs Kabul to attend Geneva conference

President Ashraf Ghani on Monday morning at the head of high-level delegation left Kabul for Switzerland to participate in Geneva conference on Afghanistan.

Presidential Spokesman Haroon Chakhansouri wrote on his verified twitter account that besides addressing the Geneva conference, Ghani would hold bilateral meetings with representatives of participating countries and organizations.

The conference will be held at a foreign ministry level on November 27 and 28. Representatives from 62 countries, 35 donor agencies and international organizations will take part in the event.

The Afghan government and United Nations will host the conference in Geneva, the capital of Switzerland.

The conference provides a platform for the Afghan government and international community to demonstrate progress and commitment, and maintain the momentum of presidential elections and opportunities for peace and security.

The summit also aims to emphasize the importance and the implementation of mutual commitments made by the Afghan government and the international community towards reform and development.

President Ghani is accompanied by his Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, first lady Rulah Ghani, Economy Minister Mustafa Mastoor, Mines and Petroleum Minister Nargis Nehan and several other high-rank officials, according to Shamrez Khan Masjidi, Finance Ministry spokesman.
