Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday said the conditions for peace will improve and the hopes for peace will increase if the Taliban cut their ties with “other insurgent groups”.

Abdullah said if the news about US, Taliban agreements be true, then a part of Afghanistan problems will resolve.

“If this news (about US-Taliban talks in Qatar) are true, we hope that it will be true, and if it happens, then a part of Afghanistan’s problems will be resolved,” Abdullah said at a ceremony.

“We know that terrorist groups by the interactions they have made in an environment provided by the Taliban for them, from one hand have fueled war and violence in Afghanistan and from the other hand have followed goals for the favor of their own countries,” Abdullah added.

Addressing the same event, President Ashraf Ghani said the final decision about peace agreements with the Taliban will be made by the Afghan government.

He said the framework for peace talks will be determined by Afghans during the upcoming peace Jirga.

Ghani said the peace process should be owned by the Afghans and the Afghans should make the final decision.

“Ownership of the peace process belongs to Afghan people and government. Our peace will be a calculated peace that rooted in people’s demands,” said Ghani.

Second Vice President Mohamad Sarwar Danish, meanwhile, warned that the peace process should not create obstacles on the way of the state-building and elections.

“The process of state-building will stop if elections are put aside because of peace,” said Danish.

The Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, meanwhile, called on President Ghani to inaugurate the parliament after the results of the parliamentary elections are announced.

Former President Hamid Karzai in a statement on Wednesday called on the Afghan government to release a number of prisoners who are jailed under the name of Taliban to show a gesture of goodwill towards peace.

“Considering the recent developments, I ask all the warring parties to stop war and bloodshed and reach an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire as soon as possible,” he added in the statement.

This comes as the 16-day talks between US and Taliban in Qatar ended on Tuesday with agreement in draft on two key issues under debate.
