Parliamentary, provincial polls in Ghazni next year

The parliamentary elections in the central province of Ghazni that was delayed in 2018 due to “security issues and other problems” as well as the provincial councils’ elections will be held next year in October, the election commission said.

Hawa Alam Nuristani, the chairperson of the Independent Election Commission, said the problems that happened in the previous elections will be prevented in the upcoming elections.

Officials of the commission, who addressed reporters at a press conference on Saturday, said the election has been estimated to cost $19 million.

Nuristani said the provincial councils’ elections that were supposed to be held with the last year’s presidential polls will also be held next year.

According to IEC officials, the provincial councils’ elections will cost $80 million.

The parliamentary election was held in October 2018, but it was not held in Ghazni due to security issues.
