Residents of eastern Kunar province claim that Pakistan has planted landmines on the Afghan side of the Durand Line.

People living in areas close to the de facto- border said that Pakistani military had cultivated anti-personnel mines on the Afghan side of the fence Pakistan had unilaterally erected along the disputed line.

Some inhabitants of Dangam and Marawara districts of the province told media that the bombs have inflicted both human and financial losses on them.

They claimed the landmines killed dozens of animals, besides human beings.

Abdul Satar Mirzakwal, governor of the eastern province, confirms the claims of the residents, saying Pakistani army planted landmines in some areas.

Pakistan has erected fence along the Durand Line despite opposition from Kabul, reiterating that the brier can prevent militants from easily roaming between the two countries. Afghans believe terrorists cannot be stopped by fencing the line, saying fight against terrorism needs political will and commitment. They say Pakistan has given anti-Afghan government elements safe havens in its biggest cities.
