Over 120 different groups comprised of 1,500 members have been fighting against government forces under the Taliban leadership in northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Saturday.
Col. Mohammad Zahir, deputy head of security forces coordination center, said this while presenting one-year performance report of the Jawzjan police headquarters.
“Different groups have been acting against security forces under shadow Taliban governor Maulvi Sunnat in Jawzjan. Individuals in anti-government groups involved in kidnapping, collecting Ushar, zakat, planting mines, grabbing public property and other illegal activities,” he said.
As part of clashes and fighting with the Taliban, he said the Qoush Tapa and Khamabd district felt to the Taliban while the Mangajak, Qarqin, Muradyan and Darz Ab were under high level security threat from the Taliban.
Zahir said 256 Taliban were killed and 84 others injured as a result of 22 ambushes and 1,260 patrols by police in the province.
He said police have registered 541 crimes since August last year and arrested 644 individuals in connection to these crimes while 96 more incidents were under the detective personnel watch.
