Officials from the National Development Company have reported that 58% of the work on the second phase of the Qush Tepa Canal has been completed.

Sayed Zabihullah Miri, the project manager of the Qush Tepa Canal, told TOLOnews that the excavation work in the 130-kilometer stretch of the second phase has reached Andkhoy district in Faryab province.

Miri added that more than 3,500 people and 3,000 machines are working in the second phase of this canal.

The Qush Tepa Canal project manager stated: “The second phase of the Qush Tepa Canal has made 58% physical progress so far, with about 3,000 machines and 3,500 workers engaged. The current endpoint of our work is presently in Andkhoy district, Faryab province.”

Some residents of Andkhoy have expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the excavation work on the second phase of the Qush Tepa Canal reaching their district.

Zalmai Azizi, a resident of Andkhoy, said: “We welcome the good progress of the second phase of the Qush Tepa irrigation canal and request that this project be completed as soon as possible so that water reaches Andkhoy district. With the arrival of water in Andkhoy district, agriculture in the four surrounding districts will flourish even more.”

Some experts consider the management of the Qush Tepa Canal’s water to be crucial for Afghanistan and emphasize the quality of work on this project.

Najibullah Sadeed, a water management expert, told TOLOnews: “This is a long-term project, and even if it takes some time, it is not important. What is important is that this project is irreversible, and we cannot repair it later. We must pay attention to the quality of work from now on, and this canal must be a successful project for Afghanistan.”

The National Development Company has planned to complete the excavation work for the second phase of the Qush Tepa Canal project, with a budget of 20 billion afghani, by the end of the current solar year, reaching the final point of the canal in Andkhoy district, Faryab.
