Qari Zain-ul-Abidin Abid, the governor of Nuristan, announced the restoration of 2,500 hectares of forest and the planting of 206,000 saplings in the province.

Speaking to the Bakhtar News Agency, Governor Abid detailed the achievements made this year, emphasizing the restoration of forests in various areas across Nuristan.

The tree-planting campaign includes a mix of fruit and ornamental saplings, contributing to both local agriculture and beautification efforts.

To combat deforestation, the governor highlighted the construction of 50 solar-powered houses, which provide sustainable energy solutions to residents. Additionally, 68 water reservoirs have been established to facilitate irrigation, supporting agricultural activities in the province.

In a bid to reduce reliance on wood as a primary energy source, Governor Abid announced the importation of 200 tons of coal. This initiative is expected to prevent the consumption of approximately 2,000 tons of wood, promoting a more sustainable approach to energy use.

Looking ahead, discussions have been initiated with the Ministry of Energy and Water to construct rural power dams, which would further enhance energy accessibility and decrease the community’s dependence on wood for fuel.
