Construction work on two passenger bus terminals in Kandahar has officially begun, with a total investment of 452 million afghanis.
During an inauguration ceremony, the Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada, Kandahar’s Deputy Governor Mullah Mohammad Sadiq Inqilabi, and other officials, including provincial heads and transport sector representatives, attended the event.
According to Minister Akhundzada, the terminals will be built in the Nasaji area of Daman district and the Bagh Pul area. The project is part of the ministry’s broader efforts to establish a modern, standardized transport system across the country.
Spanning 100 and 142 acres, respectively, the terminals will be constructed over two floors by two private firms, funded by the Islamic Emirate’s national budget. The construction is expected to take 14 months, generating 800 direct and 4,000 indirect job opportunities.
Designed to meet international standards, the terminals will feature parking facilities, waiting areas for men and women, transport offices, restaurants, security zones, fire response units, and mosques.
During the event, Mujahid reiterated the Islamic Emirate’s focus on economic development, emphasizing that the country’s transport system must be self-sufficient and capable of addressing public needs.
