Over 40 Afghans, including some government officials, held an “intra-Afghan conference” with the Taliban in Qatar amid the seventh round of US-Taliban talks this month. The talks resulted in a joint declaration which asked the warring sides to reduce civilian casualties.

A week after the conference, the Afghan NSA Hamdullah Mohib said that the second round of talks between the Afghans and the Taliban will be held next month, but did not give further details regarding the date and the place of the meeting.

A statement released by the office of NSA on Saturday says that the issue of the next round of the so-called intra-Afghan dialogue was raised during a meeting between Mohib and the German ambassador to Kabul, whose country cohosted Doha conference.

Over 40 Afghan delegates and 17 Taliban representatives recently attended the first intra-Afghan conference in Qatar. Although the intra-Afghan meeting had given hope for peace to the Afghan citizens, a day later, Taliban said the outcome of the meeting is not feasible, adding that the two sides have just expressed their concerns about the current situation.
