A total of 2,880 trade licenses were issued since last year in western Herat province after a reduction in the license fee, local officials said on Monday.
Jamila Bahaduri, director of the provincial Commerce and Industry department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the decreased business license fee encouraged people to obtain the permit.
She said about 2,880 licenses were issued to traders since last year. Each license form was sold for 2,600 Afghanis to applicants, according to Bahaduri.
Though people are interested in getting trade licenses, but economic experts believe the United States sanctions on Iran have a negative impact on the Herat economic situation.
“We are looking for foreign resources to help boost the provincial economic situation,” said Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman.
More than 200 factories are operating in the industrial park of Herat province.
