Seventy percent area in the Nazyan district of eastern Nangarhar province has been cleared of the Daesh rebels during joint military operation, a statement from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Sunday.
“Daesh insurgents would be soon completely purged of the area,” the statement quoted Nangarhar NDS Head Maj. Gen. Nazar Ali Wahidi as saying during his visit to the district.
He said the operation was being headed by Commander of 4th brigade Gen. Karim Niyazi, deputy police chief and Malak Dehqan, the district chief and head of the uprising groups.
Three days back, two security personnel, and three uprising group members were killed in an airstrike. Officials, however, said the strike was mistake and not intentionally carried out.
Provincial officials also claimed the surrender of 11 Daesh rebels which included women and children.
five days on since the launch of local uprising and military offensive in the province officials claimed the killing of 22 insurgent and arrest of others but Daesh rebels have yet to comment about these claims.
