NATO and India have commended the people of Afghanistan for October 20 elections in which millions of people exercised their democratic right.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg hailed the Afghan security forces for providing security for the election despite great challenges.
“I commend the millions of Afghan men & women who have exercised their democratic right to vote & the Afghan security forces who have provided security for the elections despite great challenges. NATO will continue to support Afghanistan as it builds a better future,” he said.
Separately, India congratulated the people of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for exercising their democratic rights at Parliamentary elections held on October 20, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The enthusiastic participation of people, including the women, despite the terrorist violence, is a testament of resilience of the people of Afghanistan. It reflected their desire and faith in democratic governance and rejection of the evil forces that foment and spread terror and violence.
The National Unity Government, the Independent Election Commission and the Security forces of Afghanistan deserve appreciation for creating, enabling environment and organizing these elections despite numerous challenges.
“We hope that these elections would contribute to the strengthening of democratic institutions and deepen inclusive democratic system in Afghanistan.”
India supported the people of Afghanistan in their efforts to build a peaceful, stable, united, inclusive and prosperous nation.
