The NATO Foreign Ministers would discuss range of issues, including security situation in Afghanistan, peace process and the Geneva conference, the alliance said on Sunday.
The foreign ministers would meet on 4-5 December 2018 – to discuss a wide range of security challenges, including Russia’s destabilizing behavior, violent extremism and Middle East, North Africa and situation in Afghanistan, NATO told Pajhwok Afghan in Brussels.
The meeting on Afghanistan will be held on the 5th of December, in a format that will include all NATO Allies, all nations contributing to the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission to train, advice and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions.
A NATO official says, Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs, the NATO Senior Civilian Representative to Afghanistan, and the Commander of RS mission. Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the United Nations, the European Union and the WorldBank have also been invited to attend the meeting on Afghanistan.
“At their meeting, we expect Foreign Ministers to reaffirm the decisions taken at our Summit in July 2018 on our continued support to Afghanistan, through our RS mission and our commitment to support the financial sustainment of the Afghan security forces through 2024.” The official added.
NATO and allies to recall Afghanistan’s commitment to continue on the path to reform, including the promotion of human rights, good governance, and combat corruption.
“We also expect Ministers to reiterate our support to an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process and to exchange views with their Afghan counterpart in this regard, following the recently held Geneva Conference on Afghanistan.” NATO official said.
