Abdul Rahman Attash, CEO of the National Development Corporation, visited the QoshTepa canal this week to assess work done on the second phase of this project.

During his visit he directed provincial officials involved in the project to speed up work so as to get phase two completed as soon as possible.

Phase two of the QoshTepa canal, which is 177 kilometers long, is taking place in the Dawolatabad district of Balkh province.

Several bridges still need to be built across the canal at various points.

The excavation work of the second phase of the large QoshTepa agricultural canal will be completed in another year.

Attash also spoke to officials, engineers and workers responsible for the QoshTepa canal dam project and urged them to “work round the clock to complete it as soon as possible.”

QoshTepa Canal, which is the largest agricultural and national development project currently underway in Afghanistan, will irrigate a large area in northern Afghanistan once complete. It will also help the industrial sector.

The water will be drawn from the Amu River.
