The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday reacted to a statement by Iran on Sunday, which said that Tehran is closely following Afghanistan’s issues and that it is concerned about the current situation in the country.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Sunday said the current situation in Afghanistan is a result of the US government’s inattention to the existing challenges in Afghan elections.
The statement said that Iran is feeling a threat to its internal stability from the current situation in Afghanistan.
But the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a tweet that Kabul, while seeking to develop relations with Iran, was surprised by Iran’s “superficial” perspective:
“The two countries have many commonalities religiously, culturally and historically,” the ministry said. “It was not expected that the Islamic Republic of Iran would have such a superficial view of incidents and issues in Afghanistan.”
