Mines ministry starts evaluating firms’ documents for Herat oil extraction

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) says it has started the process of evaluating the documents of domestic and foreign companies for extracting Herat oil field and the winning company will be determined soon.

Officials from the ministry said that dozens of domestic and foreign companies have submitted their documents for high investment in Herat oil extraction.

“Many domestic and foreign companies have come to the Ministry of Mines. Currently, their documents are being evaluated. We hope that in the coming days, we may witness the practical contract for this large field and the start of its work,” said Homayoun Afghan, a spokesperson for MoMP.

Meanwhile, members of the private sector emphasized that if they are given the opportunity, they are ready to invest not only in Herat oil extraction but also in various oil fields of the country.

“We have nine refineries in which more than 300 million dollars have been invested and more than 10,000 people are working in these refineries,” said Zabihullah Nazari, the deputy head of the Oil Refineries Union.

According to the figures of the Oil Refineries Union, domestic investors have invested $300 million in this sector, which has provided at least 10,000 jobs.
