Onion yield has increased amid growing demand in central Logar province, an official said on Monday.
Agricultural Director Abdullah Tasal told Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive interview that the crop had been cultivated on 43,000 acres of land.
The onion production in the province was recorded at 54,000 metric tons, Tasal said, adding per seven kilograms of the vegetable accounted for 120 to 150 Afghanis in Logar.
He called the crop yield this year significantly good. Logar’s climate is ideal for onion cultivation, according to the official.
“This year we provided growers with improved onion seed varieties,” said the director, whose department advised farmers on how to prevent possible diseases.
A farmer from Mohammad Agha district, Azizullah, voiced pleasure over the yield of onion. He also expressed happiness with the onion price.
Other growers are also happy with the onion yield and price.
