Kabul residents on Saturday expressed their concerns over the lack of ATM machines in the city, saying they are facing problems as they have to wait in queues outside banks for hours to withdraw money.
According to residents, many ATM machines in the city are not working anymore.
“Inactive ATM machines have caused many problems for people who wait in lines for a whole day or even one week to withdraw money,” said Zabihullah, a resident of Kabul.
“The problem will be solved if ATM machines are activated. People have money in banks and cannot withdraw it,” said Wahidullah, a Kabul resident.
The residents called on the Islamic Emirate to address the issue.
Afghanistan’s Central Bank said that 96 ATM machines are active across the country and that efforts are underway to make all the machines operational.
“We urge all banks to gradually activate their ATM machines,” said Hasibullah Noori, press director for the Central Bank.
This comes the Afghan central bank came under sanctions from the international community after the fall of the previous government, something that affected banking services in the country.
