For the first time, a female officer has been appointed as the administrative head of the criminal branch in the provincial police headquarters in southeastern Khost province, but the move triggered some reaction.
Khost Police spokesperson Adel Haidar said Zala Zazai has been appointed as deputy administrative head of the crime branch in the province.
He said Mrs. Zazai was introduced to her office by Col. Lahore, deputy administrative head of Police Headquarters.
2nd Lt Zala Zazai pledged to perform her duty with honesty and would never hesitate from any sacrifice in line of duty.
However, many people took to social media and expressed their views regarding the appointment of Zazai as the police officer.
Munibullah Zadran said there were competent generals and officers who had the ability to perform the job better.
Ismatullah Zaheer also condemned the appointment and said government appointments were based on nepotism.
He added his brother was 2nd lieutenant, but currently he was at home and if they offered money or reference, he could be promoted.
Renowned journalist Emal Pasarlai on his Facebook page wrote: “I heard the name of Zala Zazai for the first time and I am sure this name is new for many. She completed studies in Turkey and people raised questions over her appointment may be because of her gender.”
“She may be lacking the ability but when males get appointed, no one talks after them, the same should be applied in this case. We should not be making premature judgment especially when it comes to women,” he said.
Rahmat Nikan, another social media user, welcomed the appointment of Zala and said educated women should be encouraged and their experiences used for the betterment of the country.
Gulab Hemmat wrote male and female had equal right to work in government sector.
Marjan Hasand wrote Zala’s appointment as deputy administrative head of the crime branch in Khost might change the mindset of people of Khost and make them believe in women and their abilities.
Baitullah Hameed chided criticism over the appointment of Zala and said: “Criticism over the appointment of a female in security or any other institution originates from stupid male dominance in our society.”
