Revenue amounting to 957 million Afghanis has been collected by the provincial Customs Department of southeastern Khost province within the past ten months, the governor said Monday.
Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai told a press conference that the customs revenue increased by 67 percent compared to the same period last year.
While the provincial Revenue Department collected 406 million Afghanis during first10 months of last year, showing a 30 percent increase.
Addressing media persons, Fidai termed administrative reforms and increase in exports and imports through Ghulam Khan Port as main factors behind the increase in customs and revenue department income during the past ten months.
He said drastic reforms had been brought to the Khost revenue department and further reforms were being adopted.
He further said 30,440 tons of goods were exported via Ghulam Khan Port during the past ten months, 96 percent up compared to last year’s figures.
He also said 28,042 tons of goods were imported through the same port last year but around 42,260 tons were exported within the same period this year.
Faridullah, a resident of Khost City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News they would see further increase in the provincial revenue if the Ghulam Khan port became a formal transit route in future.
He urged the government to work hard till declare formally Ghulam Khan port as transit port.
Mohammad Halim Fidai said efforts were underway in this regard and the Ghulam Khan port would be soon announced as a formal transit port in near future.
