US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, wrapped up his seventh round of talks with Taliban political representatives in Qatari capital Doha.
Khalilzad in short statement on his verified twitter handle wrote that he had a meeting with Taliban representatives on Tuesday.
“I had a meeting with the Taliban this morning. Headed to China now and then will return to Washington to report and consult on the Afghan peace process,” said Khalilzad.
He did not give further details on the results of his seventh round of talks with Taliban, but he had earlier praised the progress they made in the round.
Earlier, US special envoy for Afghan peace tweeted that they had made substantive progress on all four parts of the peace agreement.
He tweeted on July 6 that seventh round was the most productive session since the inception of the negotiations.
“The last 6 days of talks have been the most productive session to date. We made substantive progress on ALL 4 parts of a peace agreement: counter-terrorism assurances, troop withdrawal, participation in intra-Afghan dialogue & negotiations, and permanent & comprehensive ceasefire,” he wrote.
Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen also said that progress was made in this round of negotiations, but he insisted on Taliban’s stance of refusing ceasefire before announcement of timetable for foreign forces withdrawal.
