Negotiations between Taliban and the US should be all-inclusive to help restore peace in Afghanistan and the region at large, says a senior Pashtun politician.
Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao issued the call during a meeting with Afghan Ambassador Shukrullah Atif Mashal on Monday.
The Afghan government should be included in the peace parleys to bring stability to the war-torn country, stressing the talks must be taken logical conclusion.
Pakistan and Afghanistan shared a common religion, culture and history, Sherpao noted. “This region has been in conflict for the last four decades,” he said.
The QWP chairman said the opportunity must be seized to restore peace to Afghanistan. He urged stakeholders to move forward cautiously to take the peace initiative to its logical conclusion.
Pakhtuns on both sides of the border had suffered over the last 40 years due to bloodshed in the region, he lamented, calling for mitigation of their suffering.
