Kabul Municipality said that over the past three years, it has paid more than three billion afghani to individuals whose lands have been expropriated.

Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of Kabul Municipality, responding to concerns from some citizens regarding the non-payment of compensation for their expropriated homes, stated that the municipality has sufficient financial resources and that compensation payments are made only to the rightful landowners.

Speaking to TOLOnews, the Kabul Municipality representative said: “Kabul Municipality has no financial issues regarding expropriation. As soon as citizens complete the necessary documentation process, the money, which is held in trust by us, will be transferred promptly.”

However, some Kabul residents are calling for an acceleration in the process of compensation payments for their expropriated lands.

Residents of an area in Kabul where their homes were expropriated for the construction of the road from Alauddin Square to Chehel Sotoun say they have not yet received their compensation.

“They had a week to pay us, but now two months have passed since that deadline, and no one has given us our money. They say the land compensation will be paid, but it’s unclear whether it will take 10 years or 20 years,” Mohammad Halim, a resident of Kabul’s District 7, told TOLOnews.

Amanullah, another resident of the area, said: “Give us our money, brother. We don’t have any, and we are stuck as hostages to landlords.”

Meanwhile, some residents of District 7 are pleased with the construction of the road, considering it a significant step toward improving transportation and living conditions.

“These infrastructural developments are beneficial for both the country and us, as they provide convenience,”said Khan Mohammad, a resident of District 7.

Previously, Kabul Municipality had announced that in the past five months, it had collected more than 3.35 billion afghani in revenue. During this period, 165 development projects were planned across 22 districts of Kabul, of which 82 projects are currently underway.
