The joint Afghanistan-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce said that Pakistan will remove tariffs on some Afghan vegetables.
The head of the joint chamber said that the recent floods have affected the harvests in Pakistan.
“The use of vegetables high in Pakistan. It has a large population, and therefore, Pakistan wants to remove tariffs on vegetables to provide for its future needs,” said Naqibullah Safi, head of the joint chamber.
However, the Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock (ACAL) said that there is a major need for vegetables in Afghan markets.
“Pakistan is interested in 80 percent because Pakistan lacks onion and tomato. One bag of onions is sold between 20,000 to 25,000 Koldar. Why do they increase the tariff of apples? They should reduce the tariff on apples as well,” said Mirwais Hajizada, head of the ACAL.
This comes as the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said that the recent floods have severely affected the harvest across Afghanistan.
“Around 300,000 acres of agriculture lands, 150,000 trees were damaged,” said Musbahuddin Mustaeen, a spokesman for the ministry.
