According to a press release from the Nuristan provincial office, the administrative center for Waygal District has officially been inaugurated, and its foundation stone laid following the resolution of long-standing local disagreements.

Although the establishment of Waygal District had previously been approved based on the proposal of the provincial authorities and the request of local tribes, the exact location of its center remained undecided due to disputes among residents. After three rounds of assessments and visits by joint central delegations, a final decision was made in accordance with the official directive of the Prime Minister’s Office. The area of Kawashma, located between the villages of Puch and Akchuri, was formally designated as the district center.

In a ceremony attended by Mawlawi Mohammad Shafiq Hanafi, Head of the Nuristan Governor’s Office; Abdullah Azam, Director of Personnel Affairs; along with tribal elders, religious scholars, and government officials, the foundation stone of the district center was laid and a ribbon was cut to mark the inauguration.

With this act, the official decree of the Islamic Emirate’s leadership has been implemented, and Waygal District now begins its administrative operations from its new center.

Residents of the wider Waygal region expressed their deep gratitude to the Nuristan provincial administration and praised the implementation of the Prime Minister’s directive. They called the decision a clear sign of the Islamic Emirate’s attention and care toward the long-neglected and oppressed people of Waygal. Many expressed joy that, after years of uncertainty, a stable, accessible, and secure location has been selected to serve as the district center—one that can effectively deliver government services to all.

It is worth mentioning that the selection of Kawashma was the result of comprehensive geographical, security, and social assessments conducted by the central delegation to ensure that all residents of Waygal District can equitably benefit from the services of the Islamic Emirate.
