Iranian official says decline in Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan is an opportunity

An official in Iran’s South Khorasan province has said that Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan have declined and that this is an opportunity for Iran.

According to IRNA news agency, Ahmad Ariafar, the general director of industry, mines and commerce of South Khorasan province, said at a ceremony, that Afghanistan is a country with good potential for Iran’s technical and engineering services.

The governor of South Khorasan, Jawad Qana’at, also stated that in order to increase exports to Afghanistan, they want the Mahirud border crossing with Afghanistan to be operational 24 hours a day.

According to IRNA, Alireza Khama Zar, head of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture of Iran’s Birjand city, said that mainly cement, tiles, ceramics, eggs and food items are exported from Iran’s South Khorasan province to Uzbekistan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

Iran is one of Afghanistan’s largest trading partners.

Recently, local officials in Taybad city of Razavi Khorasan province of Iran announced that 67,000 tons of agricultural products have been exported to Afghanistan through Dogharoun border over the past 10 months.
